History of Security Fence, Inc.

Security Fence, Inc., located in Cookeville, Tennessee, is a company that places a high value on providing a wide range of fence products and services that insure quality, beauty and security for a fair price. We are committed to providing customer satisfaction, industry professionalism, and in maintaining integrity in our business practices.

The company is owned and operated by Terry Colson, President, and his wife Susan Colson, Vice-President and Treasurer. It began as a partnership between Terry and another individual that ended six months later when Terry bought the business from his partner and incorporated it in August 1976. "The company had a modest beginning", Terry explains. "We leased property that had two 8’ x 12’ sheds. One was our office, and the other one was a fitting shed.  We also had a 30’ x 60’ lot for material storage. I did estimates in the evenings, and I had one employee who helped with installation. The company operated and grew at this location until 1987. We then decided to purchase property in Cookeville and added a building to handle our growing operations. We currently operate from this location."

The fence products installed by Security Fence, Inc. are chain link, vinyl, wood, ornamental metal, controlled entry systems, and estate gates.  Trained, experienced craftsmen in our shop fabricate the gates we sell and install. We do fencing for residential, commercial and industrial applications. 

When asked about his company’s strengths, Terry replies, "We believe being small has the advantage of flexibility. Having been in business for over 30 years, we have a lot of experience and knowledge that we have gained from our past work. We have skilled and experienced employees who have attained professional status as a Certified Fence Professional (CFP), Certified Gate Operator Installer, and have gained knowledge from attendance at the Field Training School. Just as importantly, we apply that knowledge to practical applications in the field. Security Fence, Inc. has a place of business open to the public in our community where customers can visit our operation and know where we are."

Susan Colson brings to the table her background in accounting and business experience. Susan earned her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1984. She has experience in public accounting firms working with a large variety of businesses and other organizations. This lends valuable perspective to Security Fence, Inc., where she has been Controller for more than twenty years. She serves the fence industry through her association with the American Fence Association, the recognized leader organization for the fence industry. As President of the Volunteer State Chapter of the AFA, Susan serves on the AFA’s Board of Governors. This national service benefits the fence industry, Security Fence, Inc., their customers and prospective customers everywhere.
